Owner of shop involved in Montreal shooting makes court appearance

MONTREAL - The owner of the Montreal shop that was the scene of a brazen daylight shooting appeared before a judge today, accused of breaching bail conditions.

Forty-one-year-old Ducarme Joseph made a short appearance via video link wearing a grey t-shirt and a small gold medallion.

He was formally accused of breaching bail conditions related to a previous assault charge and being in possession of a prohibited 'cylindrical black object' - possibly a silencer.

The appearance lasted only minutes and a bail hearing was scheduled for Monday.

Two men were killed and two others wounded on Thursday when two gunmen entered the clothing boutique and opened fire.

Police sources say the shooting was professionally planned and they're looking into whether there are mafia connections.

They're not ruling out a link to the slaying of the son of reputed mob boss Vito Rizzuto, who is in a U.S. jail serving a sentence for a racketeering conviction.

Forty-two-year-old Nick Rizzuto was shot and killed in December.

Ducarme was arrested on suspicion of breaching bail conditions on Friday.
