MONCTON, NB - Forecasters say Earl is a marginal hurricane but it is still packing a punch and made landfall just east of Halifax, Nova Scotia late this morning.
High winds and heavy rain have been pounding communities along Southwestern Nova Scotia including Yarmouth and Liverpool.
For Greater Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick, Environment Canada has posted a tropical storm warning, a rainfall warning and a wind warning.
News 91.9 Meteorologist Richard Zurawski says the region can expect wind gusts of up to 90 km/h and up to 70 millimetres of rain.
Bill Appleby of the Canadian Hurricane Centre says the storm has weakened a little, but its eye is a bit more defined.
Appleby says that means winds around the storm's centre won't weaken as much as initially expected.
