The temporary bridge connecting Meat Cove to the rest of the province has been completed.
Crews have been working around-the-clock since the only bridge into the northern Cape Breton village was washed away by heavy rains and flash flooding ten days ago.
Premier Darrell Dexter was one of the first people to cross the bridge.
He tells CTV provincial backing for places like Meat Cove is crucial.
"First and foremost I want this community to know that they have the support of the provincial government," he said. "Rural communities are the lifeblood of our province and we need to do everything that we can to support them."
Dexter says it might be possible to get federal disaster assistance funding for the community.
Meat Cove resident Derek MacLellan says it would come in handy as there's still a lot of work to be done.
"The most pertinent thing right now is to get people back to work and clean up this debris, because is bears a threat in itself," he said. "If we receive another large rainfall, the infrastructure they're putting in place now will be for nothing because it will just be down the creek again."
It's expected to take at least another month before Meat Cove's infrastructure is fully restored.
