MONCTON, NB - Despite word the department store may close later this year, The Bay could be staying in Moncton afterall.

Moncton's business development director Kevin Silliker says his office has been talking to officials with The Bay who say sales have been strong in recent years.

"They've actually indicated that if there was an opportunity, they would certainly consider (staying) in the Moncton market," notes Silliker.

The owners of Highfield Square recently terminated the lease of The Bay and the remaining stores in the shopping centre due to redevelopment.

The iconic department store was originally set to close in April but that date has since been extended to this fall.
