MONCTON, N.B. - Cape Breton singer-songwriter Jimmy Rankin has racked up eight music award nominations for the 2012 East Coast Music Awards.
The nominations were announced Friday at Casino NB.
Several other artists followed closely behind Rankin, including Nova Scotia rapper Classified with five nominations.
David Myles, The Trews and Matt Anderson each have five.
Sue Hutchinson of the East Coast Music Association says preparations for East Coast Music Week are in full swing.
"We're really busy. The local committee is busy, the solicitation for volunteers is still ongoing, and of course getting everything set up and all our designs in place for the showcase ... it's all happening now."
Hutchinson says voting for artist and industry awards begins now.
There are two awards for fans to vote on this year: the Bell Aliant Fan's Choice Entertainer of the Year, and Video of the Year.
Voting for those two awards opens March 1st.
ECMA Week runs from April 11 - 15 in Moncton, with the hardware being handed out at a gala awards show at the casino on April 15th.
