Irishtown man sentenced on child porn charges

MONCTON, N.B. - A 51 year-old Irishtown man has been sentenced to six years and nine months in prison on charges ranging from making and possessing child pornography to sexually touching two young boys.

Roger Joseph Williams apologized to his victims and his family for the pain he's put them through.

The former trucker was arrested last October as part of an online investigation by the RCMP's Internet Child Exploitation Unit.

Court was told that investigators found more than 4,600 images and 234 movies depicting child pornography on William's computer, many involving infants and toddlers.

Judge Irwin Lampert told Williams that he's caused terrible pain and suffering to his victims, and it's shocking to see the depths of depravity that he's sunk to.

Williams lawyer says his client is understandably terrified at the position he's in, going to prison for the first time with a set of offences that are not viewed very lightly behind bars.

Williams must submit a DNA sample, apply to the National Sex Offender Registry, and will be prohibited from being around young people upon his release.
