Council puts brakes on development in part of Hub City
MONCTON, N.B. - A moratorium has been placed on development in part of Moncton. Mayor George LeBlanc says residents in Sunnybrae and some surrounding areas are concerned about the changing face of their neighborhood. Residents of the area have expressed concerns that many older single-family houses have been bought up and either renovated into or demolished and replaced by apartment buildings and rooming houses. LeBlanc says a committee has been formed to examine zoning in the area. He says due to the high volume of applications to renovate or demolish homes received in the past ten days, the decision was made last night to place a moratorium to allow the committee to finish their review. It's expected to last two or three months. |
