Riverview councillor sentenced for failing the breathalyser
MONCTON, NB - A veteran Riverview councillor has lost his drivers license for a year after pleading guilty to failing the breathalyzer. Seventy-two year old Robert Weldon Hyslop was arrested in September of last year -- and charged with summary counts of impaired driving and having a blood alcohol above the legal limit. Hyslop originally pleaded not guilty and was supposed to stand trial on the matter next week. Yesterday he pleaded guilty to failing the breathalyzer. The impaired charge was withdrawn. Hyslop was ordered to pay a one-thousand dollar fine and a 150-dollar victim fine surcharge and his driver's license has been suspended for a year. The summary conviction will not affect Hyslop's status on council. |
