REXTON, N.B. – RCMP have closed a portion of Highway 134 in Rexton today following protests by anti-fracking activists.
Mounties shut down a section of road between the Highway 11 exit and Bonar Law High School to ensure the safety of protestors in the area.
Constable Julie Rogers-Marsh says two people were arrested yesterday.
“On Sunday afternoon, the RCMP arrested two men as they were attempting to drive through the RCMP checkpoint. One of the men remains in custody as he breached conditions of an undertaking. The other man was released.”
Dozens of protestors have gathered along the highway in Rexton near a compound where seismic equipment for shale gas testing is located.
