MONCTON, NB – Will Moncton be able to land a CFL franchise in the years ahead?
The mayor thinks it’s possible after word Moncton Stadium will host another regular season game – this time between Hamilton and Montreal on September 21st.
Moncton Mayor George LeBlanc admits the city has a good friend and supporter in CFL commissioner Mark Cohon.
But he cautions a lot of things would have to fall into place if Moncton ever got a team.
“They (CFL) have to make sure Ottawa is back on its feet securely and successfully. Then there has to be both national… or sufficient advertising in place to support a team,” says the mayor.
LeBlanc adds a potential team would also need a sizeable investment from the business community.
But he notes even one game will have a big impact on the local economy, based on the last game in 2011 which generated an estimated $4.5 to $6.5 million dollars.
