MONCTON, N.B. – The cause of an apartment fire in Moncton on Friday is still under investigation, but firefighters are getting credit for saving lives and property in the chaos.
The blaze, on Clearview Street in the Lewisville neighbourhood, displaced more than 30 people.
Deputy Fire Chief Don McCabe says two firefighters were injured at the scene, but both are now in recovery.
“The one guy said he felt like he may have been a little bit hungover or got punched in the face. He had some gyprock fall on him and the other guy has a stiff neck but other than that they’re doing good.”
McCabe believes about 75% of “good building” can be saved after the fire.
However, he says it will be up to the owner and insurance company to decide whether they want to salvage the structure.
