MONCTON, N.B. – The Petitcodiac Riverkeeper has released its top ten list of pollution sources for the river and the causeway continues to top the list.

Second on the list is the Greater Moncton Sewerage Treatment Facility followed by the Memramcook and Shepody causeways.

Former riverkeeper Daniel LeBlanc says the top problems on the list are still many years away from being resolved, but there has been some improvement with others.

“The former Moncton landfill was number three for about ten years in a row and that has been removed from the list.  Also the Humphrey’s Brook abandoned dam, which is now sitting at number seven on the list, that is supposed to go away this year.”

The abandoned dam at Mill Creek is also on the list as is urban development and stormwater runoff.

Shale gas exploration has been added as a new and potential threat on the list this year sitting at number ten, along with uranium exploration which was added several years ago.
