SALISBURY, N.B. – Two people have died, including a young father, following a crash on the Trans Canada Highway near Salisbury last night.

RCMP Corporal Chantal Farrah says the two-vehicle crash took place just before 8:30 p.m. when a car heading westbound was struck by an oncoming car traveling the wrong way.

The driver of each vehicle, 24-year-old Chad Thorne of Havelock and 69-year-old Rachel Gauvin of Grande-Digue, both died at the scene.

The woman was the lone occupant in her vehicle which was traveling in the wrong direction on that divided highway.

A 25-year-old woman and two young children, aged three and four, who were passengers in the vehicle with the male victim were transported to hospital.

One of the children sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to the IWK in Halifax.

The investigation is continuing.
