MONCTON, N.B. – While most residents of Greater Moncton have their driveways cleared out after Saturday’s blizzard, the work continues for city crews.

Don Morehouse, Moncton’s director of public works, says streets are passable, and they are now focusing on sidewalk clearing.

Snow plows were out early Saturday morning, trying to keep up with the storm, and the work continued on Sunday.

Morehouse says in storms such as the one on the weekend, with high winds and zero visibility, snow plow drivers have to assess whether or not it’s safe for them to be out there.

But he says that wasn’t the case this weekend, and they managed to keep up as best as they could.

On storm days, crews focus on the main roads, to ensure there are emergency routes in and out of the city.

He says they have more than 50 pieces of equipment that would work through blizzard-like conditions.
