FREDERICTON, N.B.- Craig Leonard does not agree with the Conservation Council of New Brunswick’s view of new safety data released on the Point Lepreau Generating Station.
The CCNB claims the new results show the probability of a severe accident with a large radiation release is more than 40 times greater than NB Power originally indicated.
Leonard, New Brunswick’s Energy Minister, believes everyone should go to NB Power’s website to read the new study. “What it shows is that basically the risk levels that we’re dealing with today and the numbers that are coming out are no different than what we were looking at back in 1984 when the first studies were done”, says Leonard.
NB Power took exception to CCNB’s comments, calling them “misleading” and “an attempt to undermine public trust”.
