MONCTON, N.B. – Many are still without power in the Moncton area as crews continue to pick up the pieces from yesterday’s freak warm weather system.

The wind took out trees, fences and even a roof in the Hub City yesterday.

It also cancelled some flights at the Moncton airport and closed multiple roads due to downed power lines.

NB Power spokesperson Meghan Gerrish says they’ve hired contractors and asked neighbouring utilities for help because the damage and power outages are so widespread.

“Right now we’re seeing the worst affected areas…Fredericton, Moncton, Sussex.  There’s a number of outages right across the province.”

Despite the strong winds, the warm temperatures were a pleasant surprise for many with records set for the second day in a row in several places.

However, the mercury gradually dropped off to below zero overnight.
