MONCTON, NB – Powerful winds tore the roof off of a Moncton dry cleaning business on Shediac Road yesterday afternoon.

Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Brian Gaudet says employees inside Red Cap Cleaners managed to escape without harm.

“Workers were still inside the building when it happened although they had evacuated once the roof had been removed by the wind,” Gaudet notes.

Gaudet says the walls of the building remain intact but major reconstruction will be needed on the roof.

There’s no word on the estimate of damage.

Wind gusts peaked at more than 90 km/h in Greater Moncton yesterday.
