MONCTON, NB–A major power outage has forced the closure of the Community Peace Centre in downtown Moncton.

Officials say repair work has been underway since Sunday when the sprinkler system broke and water leaked into the electrical room which led to both power and phone lines being disconnected.

The agencies housed in the building including the United Way, MAGMA and the YWCA have been forced to shut down or find temporary offices elsewhere.

The Peace Centre is expected to reopen sometime next week.
