MONCTON, NB–The Harvest House emergency shelter in Moncton has been open 24-7 during the recent cold snap.

Executive Director Cal Maskery says they can’t turn anyone away during this kind of cold.

“The winter time is so cold, you just don’t have the heart to put anyone out.  So that’s the way it will be until the weather gets nicer.”

Maskery says about 20 to 25 clients have been dropping into the shelter at night with a few more on really cold nights.

He adds even though they have 32 beds, they can still accommodate more.  Some will sleep in beds, while other sleep on the floor, just so they can keep them in from the cold at night.
