MONCTON, N.B – A so-called “January thaw” is on the way for much of southern New Brunswick this weekend.

Forecasted highs between six and nine degrees are expected on Sunday which puts us into record territory according to meteorologist Richard Zurawski.

“We do get milder temperatures, but usually not into the record areas so this is definitely a bit of an anomaly.”

Zurawski says temperatures in the range we’re expecting are still quite rare this time of year, but are becoming more common.

He adds that they’re a symptom of climate change and are a trend we can come to expect in the coming years.
