MONCTON, NB – Greater Moncton has been walloped by a second major snowstorm in less than a week.

Officially about 24 cm was recorded at the airport while other areas of the city had more than 30 cm of snow.

Our meteorologist Richard Zurawski says the wind played a big role in the storm.

“We had a heavy snowfall event along with the wind.  The wind picked up afterwards once the cold front went through and the temperatures really did fall.  So we had almost blizzard conditions with whiteouts and blowing snow.”

Moncton public works foreman Kevin Allen says crews are busy doing a cleanup this morning.

“We pulled all the equipment off the road at 8 o’clock last night and brought them out again this morning at 4 to go back around and clean everything up, scarping and salting the streets.  We expect to have everything cleaned up by 9:30 this morning.”

Flights at the Greater Moncton Airport are leaving on time this morning.

NB Power crews have been kept busy with this storm but power has now been restored to all but a couple hundred customers.
