We’ve had a taste of it already, but now it’s official… the first day of winter arrived at 7:12 this morning.
The days have become increasingly shorter over the last few months but that is about to change today.
With the winter solstice, the sun has reached its southernmost point in the sky and the days will now begin to get longer.
Our meteorologist Richard Zurawski says the first few days of the season will be wet and blustery thanks to a storm over Ontario and Quebec.
“It looks like the forecast that Environment Canada put out for the winter is right on the money… warmer temperatures and normal precipitation amounts… and tomorrow evening, it’s going to be very windy.”
One interesting note – this is the earliest start of winter since 1896.
