MONCTON, NB – ‘Tis the season for shopping… and for thieves!

Codiac RCMP are once again reminding you to lock your car doors this holiday season.

Constable Damien Theriault says you should be vigilant at home or at the mall.

“A lot of people may be under the impression that it is something that only happens at the mall or while shopping but most cases of thefts from vehicles happen at private residences and most occur overnight,” notes Theriault.

Lock your doors wherever you park and make sure all valuables are out of sight or in the trunk.

Police have been stepping up patrols in the Jones Lake-West Main area after a rash of recent thefts and car break-ins.

Theriault says Codiac RCMP have investigated more than 900 thefts this year alone and many more go unreported.
