MONCTON, NB–The Moncton Detention Centre on Assomption Boulevard is expected to go up for sale in the new year.

A Spokesperson for the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure says the 40-year-old building has been deemed surplus and will be put on the market soon with a price yet to be determined.

The only condition of sale will be that the space cannot be turned into a parking lot.

The Detention Centre was vacated earlier this fall after a new regional jail opened in Shediac.
