PERTH-ANDOVER– New Brunswick’s Health Minister is hinting the provincial government could move the hospital in Perth-Andover out of the flood zone.

Hugh Flemming says what was a good location for a hospital decades ago, is no longer a good place.

“We can continue to throw money underwater or we can give the people of Perth top notch primary healthcare.  What was once a great location for a hospital decades ago, is not a good place today.  So we have to move with that, we have to deal with the hand that nature has dealt us, and so we will.”

The bottom floor of the hospital was flooded in March when ice jams forced waters on the St. John River to rise quickly.

Flemming said he is consulting with doctors to determine the best option but isn’t saying when a decision will be made.
