FREDERICTON, NB – Premier David Alward says his government will deliver a blueprint in this legislative session that will set out how the province plans to proceed with shale gas development.
The Progressive Conservative government delivered a throne speech today to kick off the fall session, where it also promised to strike a ministerial committee on jobs and the economy.
The province is grappling with a $10 billion debt, a $356 million deficit and an unemployment rate that’s been New Brunswick’s highest in nearly a decade.
The government is also promising to introduce efforts aimed at boosting the number of people moving into New Brunswick, as well as increasing the value of commercial exports leaving the province.
Alward is also encouraging NB Power to seek all avenues – including a possible lawsuit – in efforts to recoup the $1 billion n cost overruns for the refurbishment of the Point Lepreau nuclear power plant.
