MONCTON, NB–There’s still no word on when the two sides in the Codiac Transpo dispute will come back to the negotiating table.

Amalgamated Transit Union Head George Turple told City Councillors on Monday that he will recommend that Union members accept a 2.75 per cent wage increase over the next five years, in an effort to get the buses back on the roads…

But he says even if a deal is reached, it could be several weeks before the service is up and running again.

“there was some serious mismanagement that took place.  The place was run down,  The vehicle service, the fleet was rundown as they(the City) refused to hire mechanics over th last two years, so there is still that issue.  We’re probably still looking at minimum three weeks, and that is sad.  This thing should be up and running within three or four days.”

Turple says he is waiting to hear back from the City on his proposal before setting up a date to meet with the Union membership.

He feels it’s time to bring an end to this dispute.
