MONCTON, NB – A day and a half of talks have not produced an agreement… but Moncton City Council will provide an update today on negotiations with the union representing locked out transit workers.

The two sides met Tuesday with a conciliator and talks broke off around noon Wednesday.

The union wanted to present the city with a new offer.

Moncton spokesperson Paul Thompson provided a brief comment.

“The city is disappointed in that offer.  The end result of their proposal is that it still ends up with a salary for bus drivers of roughly $60,000 per year which works out to an hourly rate of $28 per hour.”

Local union president George Turple has declined to comment on the offer until it comes before council.

A special meeting of Moncton City Council has been called for 2:30 this afternoon.
