MONCTON, N.B. – The Georges Dumont Hospital is undertaking a major cleaning operation at its emergency department this weekend.

Officials say a thorough disinfection is necessary, given an increase in the number of cases of diarrhea caused by C.difficile bacteria.

Dr. Richard Garceau, a medical biologist, says all hospital staff are stepping up efforts to prevent the spread of the disease.

He says the major cleaning of the emergency department will take place this Saturday until Monday, since weekends are typically not very busy.
