FREDERICTON, NB – Restructuring changes are coming for RCMP in New Brunswick but officials say the public should see no changes in service or response times.
The number of districts in the province is being reduced from 11 to 3 but Codiac RCMP serving Greater Moncton will not be affected.
Corporal Chantal Farrah says the number of detachments is also being reviewed.
“We’re currently reviewing where our offices are strategically located to make sure that our operations and our efficiencies are being looked at,” notes Farrah.
A western district from the Quebec border to Charlotte County including Fredericton, a southeast district from Kent County to Saint John and a northeast district from Miramichi to Campbellton including the Acadian Peninsula are the three new districts being proposed.
Farrah says the reduction of districts over the next 18 to 24 months will bring New Brunswick more in line with other provinces such as neighbouring Nova Scotia which currently has 3 districts.
