MONCTON, N.B. - Codiac RCMP are warning the public after a female was conned out of money by a man posing as a bank inspector.
Police say the man contacted a client and convinced her to make large withdrawals from her account and turn it over to him.
He told her he was investigating a case of embezzlement by a bank employee, and that her help was crucial in putting a stop to it.
Constable Damien Theriault says this type of scam has been reported in the area in the past, and mostly targets the elderly.
He says discussing the incident with elderly relatives may prevent them from being victimized in a similar manner.
The suspect is described as a Caucasian male in his fifties, about 5’9″ and weighing approximately 185 lbs.
He had grey hair and was clean shaven, and was wearing a ball cap, a blue shirt and dark dress pants.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Codiac RCMP at 857-2400 or Crime Stoppers at 1 800 222-TIPS (8477).
