MONCTON, NB – The New Brunswick Medical Society has some concerns about the opening of a private MRI clinic in Moncton.

CEO Anthony Knight tells “McLean in the Morning” that the provincial government should be taking a greater role in regulating these types of clinics.

“While we would expect that they would follow the same standards that a hospital would use, we need to have someone there keeping an eye on things and government regulators need to be in place to do that,” Knight says.

Knight says he’s not even sure what kind of business case the clinic has since the majority of patients in New Brunswick get the MRI scan they need within one month.

The private MRI clinic in Moncton is scheduled to open November 1 and the starting cost for a patient scan is about $900.
