Clandestine drug labs and synthetic drugs are becoming more of a problem for emergency responders which is why more than 140 police and fire personnel gathered in Moncton this week.
RCMP Corporal Jean-Guy Bourque says it’s important for responders to be aware of the dangers associated with these labs.
Bourque says organized criminals are not chemists and they are combining dangerous materials together to make drugs.
“These pills are not produced by a pharmaceutical company. They are produced in an illegal clan lab and it’s dirty. It’s just a guy who is putting a recipe together and there is no one there to keep an eye on quality control,” notes Bourque.
Clandestine drug labs have not turned up in New Brunswick yet, but Bourque says the drugs have been found on the streets.
He adds clandestine labs can be set up in a house, a garage or just about anywhere.
