MONCTON, NB – Our newsroom predicts the Energy and Utilities Board will hike the price of gas by nearly 7 cents a litre at midnight tonight.

That would put the price for a litre of regular self-serve up over a $1.40.

Diesel is expected to  go up too,  but by a little over 2 cents a litre.

Analysts say the huge spike is due to last week’s explosion at the Irving Oil Refinery.
