MONCTON, NB – Thousands are expected to turn out to Centennial Park this Sunday for the CIBC Run for the Cure.

Last year’s event raised 347-thousand dollars locally.

Organizer Lisa MacDonald is not surprised by the strong show of support for the cause saying  breast cancer affects women and men of all ages and in all walks of life.

She says the event is about raising money for a cure but it’s also about raising awareness, which is important for early detection…

“It’s through education, awareness and self-exams that you’re going to catch this early.  Through having early detection throughout the years, we’ve increased the survival rate to 88 per cent among women.”   says MacDonald.

Registration for the run can be done on-line or at Centennial Park on Sunday.

Opening ceremonies are at 1:15 and the run begins at 2 p.m.
