RIVERVIEW, NB – The mayor of Riverview wants to see the town covered by one federal riding instead of two.

Ann Seamans has told the federal electoral boundaries commission it makes little sense that one part of Riverview is in Fundy-Royal while another portion lies in Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe.

Seamans tells “McLean in the Morning” that it creates a lot of confusion for residents at election time.

“It’s always been a concern and during the last municipal election we heard it over and over again as we went to the doors… all of our councillors… why can’t we be one riding,” Seamans notes.

Seamans adds it makes much more sense to have Riverview included with neighbouring Moncton in one federal riding since the two communities share so many services.

The commission is expected to make its final decision on ridings before the next federal election, likely in 2015.
