PERTH-ANDOVER, NB – The government’s response to flood problems in the Perth-Andover area isn’t being well received by some residents there.

The province is  spending almost three million dollars on flood prevention following a major flood in March.

The money will  be used to stabilize riverbanks and improve flood forecasting, but residents like Misty Smith who had been hoping to have their homes moved to higher ground, came away empty handed from yesterday’s announcement….

” I want my home safe.  I’m scared to be there this spring.  So I really would like it to be moved onto higher ground.” says Smith.

A recent report on the flood suggested moving as many as 72 homes at a cost of about eight million dollars.

Local Government minister Bruce Fitch says that option is still being studied and he hopes to make more announcements soon.
