MONCTON, NB – Finally some movement has taken place in the months-old Codiac Transpo lockout.
After discussions between the City of Moncton and the union since Labour Day, the two sides are going back to the negotiating table.
City spokesperson Paul Thomson says they may be able to reach some common ground on the length of a contract.
“So we’ve been talking about a five year contract, maybe we need to explore a seven year contract,” notes Thomson.
Local union president George Turple says contract length is something he’s willing to consider.
“We’re open to all kinds of options and that’s something we’d be open to as well. We’ll entertain what we need to do here to move forward,” Turple says.
The city locked out transit employees on June 27th in a dispute over wages and contract language.
