MONCTON, NB – Disaster teams are at the ready in Newfoundland today as post-tropical storm Leslie churns across the province.
Dan Bedell of the Canadian Red Cross says teams and supplies were dispatched to parts of Newfoundland ahead of Leslie’s arrival.
It’s a lesson learned two years ago when Hurricane Igor struck…
“As we saw with Igor that area, in terms of telecommunications may be cut off for a period of time. So it’s better to have people already on the ground close by, rather than to try and assess damage from a distance.” says Bedell.
Meanwhile.. Bedell says attention in Truro has turned to cleanup in the aftermath of yesterday’s flooding.
Cleanup kits are being made available at the Red Cross office on Truro Heights Road.
