MONCTON, N.B. – The summer travel season in New Brunswick got off to a slow start, according to the Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick.

Executive director Real Robichaud says traffic did pick up in August, with many Maritimers taking a ‘staycation.’

“What we’ve seen this year and even during my person travel, is a lot of locals traveling around.”

Robichaud adds the high Canadian dollar didn’t have much of an impact on American travellers as it did for New Brunswickers.

He notes a strong loonie and high dollar amounts on what Canadians can bring home meant many travellers were heading to the U-S this summer and vacationing there.
