MONCTON, NB – It’s back to the books today for most kids across our region.
It’s the first day of school for students in the Anglophone East District — The exception being some kindergarten students who have staggered entrance dates and Grades 11 and 12 students, who return tomorrow.
RCMP Corporal Chantal Farrah reminds drivers to be on the lookout for walking students as well as those big yellow school buses….
“When you see the flashing yellow lights, prepare to stop. And keep in mind when those lights are flashing that some kids might be running to catch their bus.” says Farrah.
According to the RCMP passing a school bus with flashing red lights in New Brunswick is an offense that carries a fine of more than a thousand dollars and the loss of your license.
The speed limit in school zones is 30 km/h and the fine for speeding in a school zone is double that of a regular fine — ranging 340 to 12-hundred dollars.
