FREDERICTON, N.B.- Liberal finance critic Donald Arseneault is accusing the premier of showing weak leadership in his discussions with the federal government.
Arseneault says David Alward has had at least ten meetings with Prime Minister Stephen Harper about cost overruns at the Point Lepreau refurbishment project, but has not made any headway.
He says Alward is not working hard enough. “Craig Leonard, the Minister of Energy, and the Premier said they(the government) want full compensation from the federal government and they’re not getting anywhere on it”, says Arseneault. “To me, that’s weak leadership from David Alward. He needs to start playing hardball with Stephen Harper in defending the interests of New Brunswickers”.
Alward and Harper met on Wednesday in Aulac, where the prime minister assisted in the opening of a wetlands research facility.
