SHEDIAC CAPE, N.B. – The toll from a fiery crash in Shediac Cape might have been greater had it not been for the rescue efforts of a group of bystanders.

One man was killed in the Saturday morning crash, in which a car travelling along the Shediac Road lost control and collided with a tree and a power pole before bursting into flames.

Scott Souther of Shediac Cape was one of several people who sprung into action and pulled the victims from the burning vehicle.

“You don’t really have time to think about it.  It had to be done, I guess.  You couldn’t just leave someone in there to burn to death.”

The driver, who has been identified as 18 year-old Nicholas Roy of Grand-Digue was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other young men remain in hospital with serious injuries, but are expected to recover
