FREDERICTON, NB–A 26-year-old man was charged with attempting to escape lawful custody yesterday after allegedly trying to escape from the Fredericton provincial courthouse.

Police say the man was brought to court around noon to face weapons-related charges and was placed in a holding cell.

Police say the man, whose legs were shackled, then climbed into a small vent in the ceiling.

Officers say the man made it to the ceiling above the holding cell, but was unable to go further and returned back to his cell.
