SUSSEX – Sussex RCMP are reminding people to drink responsibly after arresting nine people for alcohol related offences last weekend.

The Mounties say alcohol is believed to have been a factor in an ATV crash around two o’clock Sunday morning in Lakeside.

A 23-year-old man from Barnesville was taken to hospital and the crash is still under investigation.

About ninety minutes later, police arrested a 42-year-old man from Chance Harbour for refusing to take a road-side alcohol screening test.

Another 42-year-old man from Saint John was arrested around eight o’clock Sunday night for refusing to take a breathalyzer test.

And police say six other people were arrested for public intoxication.

“The number of alcohol-related calls we had this weekend is certainly a concern to us,” says Cpl. Pat Cole, of the District 3 RCMP. “Thankfully no one was seriously injured or killed, which we unfortunately see all too often when excessive drinking and impaired driving are involved.”
