SAINT JOHN, N.B. – The city of Saint John has called in a private investigation company to address a sexual assault allegation against former city police Sergeant Ken Estabrooks.

David Perry, of Investigative Solutions Network, confirmed the city received a partial sexual assault complaint in early 2012, dating back to the 1970s.

Perry says the investigation was launched immediately. “We have better policies and procedures in place than we did back in the 1970′s”, says Perry. “We intend to listen and respond appropriately to all complaints of this nature”.

Mayor Mel Norton says the city will offer support and counselling. “The city is committed to following up on this investigation. We want to do the right thing.”

The city would not confirm if victims would be compensated financially.

There is no need for a criminal investigation as Estabrooks died in 2005.

Anyone with information is asked to call Investigative Solutions Network.
