SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Both Canaport LNG and the Mispec Park Recreation Committee are pleased with a weekend turnout to a cleanup effort at the Bay of Fundy beach.

Several dozen people, along with staff from Canaport were on hand to help spruce up the park which is not receiving any money from the city this year.

Canaport LNG spokeswoman Kate Shannon says not as much garbage was collected as organizers thought.

“I know a lot of residents talked to me before hand and say anytime they go, beach go-ers pick up garbage while they were there so there’s been a lot of people taking care of it on their on their own.”

Brian Harris of the Mispec Park Recreation Committee says overall the beach is in pretty good shape. He says most people believe the city is treating the property as a liability.
