MONCTON, NB – The Centennial Park pond is off limits to boaters and canoeists until further notice.

Moncton parks supervisor Dan Hicks says high coliform counts have been recorded in the pond.

“The results that we found… it’s fairly consistent, in the hot, dry parts of the summer, the counts get high enough that we do have to close it to recreation… being the stewards of the waterway and in the interest of public safety.

The pond is not suitable for swimming but is often used by boaters.

Hicks says it could be closed for some time.
