LEPREAU – After getting approval from the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, the Point Lepreau Generating Station has successfully completed a low power restart of the reactor.

Throughout the testing process of the reactor, power will be gradually increased to predetermined levels.

“Our obligation is to demonstrate that the Station can be safely operated now and in the future,” said Paul Pasquet, Site Vice President of NB Power Nuclear. “In order to do this, hundreds of tests and checks will be carried out over the next few months.”

NB Power says everything remains on track for a full restart of the Generating Station later this fall, when it will produce enough electricity to power close to 330-thousand homes per year.
