OROMOCTO – The federal government has announced CFB Gagetown is getting an upgrade to its army meteorological centre worth more than $5 million.

Officials say the centre will track weather in the region to allow for effective military operations.

As well, existing centres at CFB Halifax and CFB Esquimalt in BC will be upgraded and renovated.

Federal defence minister Peter MacKay made the announcement this afternoon in Oromocto.

The centre is part of the Canadian Forces Weather and Oceanographic Service Transformation project, valued at more than $28 million.
